What makes a great massage oil? At first glance, the answer seems simple: something that feels good on your skin and allows your therapist’s hands to glide smoothly.

But what if the oil itself could contribute more to the overall massage experience?

At StressBusters, our CBD Massage Oil was specially formulated for us in collaboration with our clinical aromatherapist. It contains 800 mg of full-spectrum CBD from hemp, along with Arnica, California poppy, butterfly pea flower, jojoba oil, hemp seed oil, meadowfoam oil, and copaiba essential oil.

So why these ingredients? And what does each one bring to the formula?

1. Full-Spectrum CBD from Hemp — 800 mg

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a naturally occurring compound found in hemp. Unlike THC, CBD is not intoxicating, which makes it a perfect ingredient for topical wellness products.

CBD interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS), a complex signaling system involved in functions including pain perception, inflammation, mood, and skin function. Researchers continue to study how topical CBD may interact with cannabinoid receptors and other pathways in the skin and surrounding tissues.

That’s particularly interesting when it comes to massage.

Research into topical CBD is exploring its potential role in supporting comfort, managing localized discomfort, moderating inflammatory responses, and supporting skin health. While research is still developing and topical CBD shouldn’t be viewed as a medical treatment, these properties help explain why CBD has become such a popular addition to massage and body-care products.

Our formulation contains 800 mg of full-spectrum CBD from hemp. Full-spectrum means the extract contains CBD along with other naturally occurring hemp compounds, rather than CBD alone.

And that’s important because CBD isn’t intended to work alone in our formula.

We’ve combined it with seven additional ingredients selected to complement the CBD and the overall massage experience.

2. Arnica Extract

Arnica has a long history of traditional topical use and is particularly well known in products designed for massage and body care.

It is commonly associated with soothing sore, tired muscles and helping reduce the appearance of bruising and swelling.

We also use Arnica in our separate Arnica Massage Upgrade, where it is one of the primary ingredients.

Including Arnica in our CBD Massage Oil gives us another botanical traditionally associated with massage and recovery, while allowing it to complement the other ingredients in the formulation.

3. California Poppy Herb

This may be an ingredient you’ve never expected to see in a massage oil.

California poppy is native to the western United States and has a long history of traditional herbal use, particularly for its calming and relaxing properties.

That makes it an interesting addition to a massage formulation.

Massage itself provides an opportunity to slow down and relax, and California poppy brings another botanical traditionally associated with that same sense of calm.

4. Butterfly Pea Flower Extract

Butterfly pea flower is probably best known for its beautiful blue color, but there’s more to this botanical than its appearance.

Butterfly pea contains anthocyanins and other naturally occurring antioxidant compounds. Antioxidants are of interest in skin care because oxidative stress can contribute to cellular damage and visible signs of skin aging.

Including butterfly pea flower extract gives our formulation another botanical component with antioxidant and skin-supporting properties.

It’s a good example of how the ingredients in our oil were selected for more than simply how they look or smell.

5. Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil is technically a liquid wax derived from the seeds of the jojoba plant. It’s widely valued in skin-care formulations for its emollient and moisturizing properties.

For massage, it also provides the smooth glide your therapist needs while helping leave the skin feeling soft and conditioned.

It’s one of the carrier oils that helps create the feel and performance of the finished product.

6. Hemp Seed Oil

Here’s an important distinction:

Hemp seed oil and CBD oil are not the same thing.

Hemp seed oil comes from the seeds of the hemp plant and naturally contains fatty acids, including omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. It does not provide the 800 mg of CBD in our formula.

Instead, hemp seed oil contributes skin-conditioning and moisturizing properties while complementing the other plant oils in the formulation.

So we’re actually using the hemp plant in two very different ways: full-spectrum hemp extract for the CBD, and hemp seed oil for its skin-conditioning properties.

7. Meadowfoam Oil

Meadowfoam oil may be an ingredient you’ve never heard of, but it’s an excellent emollient for the skin.

An emollient helps soften and condition the skin, making meadowfoam particularly well suited to a massage formulation. It contributes to the smooth feel of the oil while helping leave the skin soft and moisturized after the massage.

It’s another example of an ingredient that was chosen because of what it contributes to the finished formulation—not simply because it sounds interesting.

8. Copaiba Essential Oil

Copaiba is where this formulation gets particularly interesting.

Copaiba comes from the resin of trees native to South America and has a long history of traditional use. Our clinical aromatherapist specifically selected copaiba for its soothing properties and potential for pain relief.

In her professional experience, she considers copaiba’s pain-control properties comparable to those of the hemp/CBD component.

That means CBD isn’t working alone in our formulation. Copaiba provides another botanical component specifically selected to complement it.

It’s the Synergy That Makes the Difference

So why didn’t we simply use a standard CBD massage oil?

Because CBD is only one part of the formula.

Our CBD Massage Oil was developed specifically for StressBusters in collaboration with our clinical aromatherapist. The goal wasn’t simply to find an oil containing CBD. It was to combine CBD, Arnica, botanicals, essential oil, and carefully selected carrier oils into a formulation where the ingredients complement one another.

As our clinical aromatherapist explains, it’s the synergy of how these constituents work together that makes the formulation so effective.

That’s an important distinction.

You’re not simply getting 800 mg of CBD added to massage oil. You’re getting a carefully constructed formulation in which multiple ingredients contribute to the overall massage and skin-care experience.

More Than Just Massage Oil

A massage is about much more than applying oil to the skin. It’s an opportunity to slow down, relax, and give your body some much-needed attention.

That’s why we didn’t want an ordinary massage oil.

We wanted something thoughtfully formulated to complement the massage itself while also caring for the skin.

Whether you’re dealing with everyday muscle tension, recovering from a workout, or simply want to make your massage a little more special, our CBD Massage Oil gives you another way to customize your experience.
